Court orders suspected cultist on murder trial to be detained

An Ota Chief Magistrate's’ Court in Ogun, Monday ordered the detaining of Azeez Taofeek, a suspected cultist for alleged murder .
Taofeek, 21, faces a two counts charge of conspiracy and murder.

Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, the Police Prosecutor, earlier told the court that the accused and others still at large committed the offences on June 3, at about 7:p.m. on Mosalasi Street, Ota.

Gbesi said that the accused and his accomplices, members of “Aiye Confraternity’’ a secret cult, conspired and killed one Waliu Folorunsho.

He said the accused and his accomplices killed the victim by violently attacking him with a gun and a cutlass that led to his death.

Gbesi said that the offences contravened Sections 319 (1) and 324 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

Mr S. O. Banwo,the Senior Magistrate ordered that the accused be remanded in the prison custody, pending legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecution on the matter.

Banwo adjourned the case to Aug. 25 for hearing.
