Oshodi LG Primaries: Real cause of the fracas that claimed Rasak Bello a.ka. Hamburger’s life

Rasak Bello a.ka. Hamburger.

There have been various versions to the story of mayhem that occurred on Monday May 29 during Oshodi APC LG Primaries which led to the death of the Chairman of the Tricycle Riders Union, Mr Rasak Bello popularly known as Hamburger, however a reliable source within the APC camp has narrated the real gist to

The source, who wanted to remain anonymous, said the real cause of the fracas is that some group decided to go against the directive of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

According to him, Tinubu had earlier said he wanted 18 former LG Chairmen to return to power, which includes the former Chairman of Oshodi/Isolo LG Bolaji Muse Ariyoh, and told the leaders to decide whoever they wanted in the remaining positions, which is the councillorship seats.

The list for the other positions was presented to Tinubu which he endorsed.

Based on this development, during the primary the agreed candidates were supposed to be consensus candidates and unopposed.

The LG Chairmanship primary was held on Saturday 27th May, 2017 and Bolaji Muse Ariyoh emerged has the consensus candidate, based on the directive.

However, on Monday May 29, 2017 the primaries for the councillorship positions were held but instead of the consensus candidates to emerge, a group who were alleged to be supporters of Ariyoh were not satisfied with the directives, decided to present their own candidates.

The fracas occurred after the primary, where Samson Agbetoye aka Golden was allegedly fingered in the murder of Hamburger.

The death of Hamburger, who a few weeks prior to his death received a chieftaincy title as the Akinrogun of Shogunle, raised a lot of dust and reprisal attacks.

The source also stated that the fracas occurred in Golden’s territory.

There were rumours on Tuesday that Golden’s mother had been killed and his house burnt down by Hamburger’s men but it turned out to be false. However, his car was burnt while he’s still at large.

When asked if Akinsanya Musiliu aka MC Olu-Omo was involved, he said "MC Olu-Omo is out of the country for his daughter’s graduation ceremony and was not involved in the fracas but rather the incident came as news to him because he never believed there would be other candidates since there were consensus candidates."

The source however implored the Governor to intervene in order to restore perfect peace to the area.

Other people that spoke with said the deceased, Hamburger, was a very nice person and that he developed Odalume, Saka , Oluwani, Bello, and Aina streets by providing borehole and Street lights with his personal money.

While calm and normalcy have returned to the streets of Oshodi and its environs, the people still live in fear of a reprisal attack.
