Woman remands in court Over stealing Baby In Osun

Mrs Adebayo Bunmi have been remanded in the prison custody for allegedly of stealing an 18-day old baby, by an Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife, on Thursday.

Ona Glory, an Inspector of Police who is standing as a prosecutor told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 1, 2018 around 05:30 pm at Itasin Area, Modakeke in Ife Northeast local government area of Osun state.

Glory said that the accused stole an 18-day baby boy, Adebode David, son of Mr & Mrs Adebode Peter with intent to deprive the couple permanently of the baby who is their source of joy.

The accused who agreed to be tried by the court, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of baby stealing.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Alaba Awoseemo, applied for the bail of the accused in most liberal term and pledged that his client would not jump bail, but provide credible sureties. But Magistrate Muhibah Olatunji refused the bail of the suspect but rather asked the Defence Counsel, Mr Alaba Awoseemo, to come with written application for the consideration of her bail.

The Magistrate thereafter ordered for the remand of the suspect in Ilesa prison custody, pending the ruling of the bail application, as she adjourned the case till July 23, for continuation of trial.
