Akpabio Resigns as Senate Minority Leader

Senate minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has resigned from office.
In his resignation letter dated August 4, 2018, Senator Akpabio did not give any reason for his resignation as minority leader. There are however reports that he would be defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Several presidential aides have confirmed that Akpabio would be defecting to APC officially at a party rally on Wednesday in Akwa Ibom.

Akpabio recently met with President Muhammadu Buhari in London and APC national leader, Bola Tinubu, in Abuja.

His resignation letter addressed to the Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, read: “May I extend to you and my dear colleagues in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senate Caucus of the 8thSenate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria the compliments and best wishes of my constituents and I.

“This letter formally informs you of my resignation as the Senate Minority Leader with effect from August 4, 2018

“Let me thank the Senate minority leadership, our distinguished colleagues and our great party, the PDP for the opportunity to lead the caucus in the last three years.”
